Sports betting is the activity of predicting the result of a sport and placing bets on the most likely winner. It is one of the most widely used forms of gambling. In the US, sports like Basketball, Football, Baseball, Soccer, Hockey and Golf are the sports that most people place their bets on. There are different kinds of sports bets. Straight Bets, Total Line Bets, Money Line Bets, Parlay Bets, Teaser Bets, Head-to-Head Bets.
This is one of the most common bets used in sports betting. It is mainly used in basketball and football. These games have a point spread according to which the bettors can choose which team to bet on.
Money Line Bets
The main difference between this bet and straight bet is that this bet does not have a point spread. This bet is the amount you have to bet on the favorite or the amount you win if you choose the underdog. Money line bets are mainly used in hockey and baseball.
Total Line Bets
The final combined score of both the teams is set and bettors can call ‘over’ or ‘under’ to indicate that the final score will be more than or less than the set score.
Parlay bets are the cumulation of two or more bets into a single one. Each of these bets are dependent on whether or not you win the other bets. You need to win all the parlays separately to win the whole parlay. Parlay bets are harder to win but the rewards are way higher if you do.
Teaser bets are similar to parlay bets, the only difference being that for a lower payout, you can change the point spread to your advantage. The disadvantage of these bets is that it is still hard to win these bets and the payout is way lower than that of parlay bets.
One of the most traditional forms of betting is head to head betting. There is only two possible outcomes, if you bet on the winner, you win the bet and if you don’t, you lose. These bets are used in sports like golf and NASCAR where it is hard to choose the winner. This is usually a good place to start for people who are new to betting.
